Anthony Weiner downplayed the significance of a new NBC 4 New York/Wall Street Journal poll, conducted by Marist College Tuesday night showing him taking over the lead in the mayoral race from Christine Quinn, according to Politicker.

“Look in many ways, it doesn’t change anything. We’re going to keep talking about ideas for the middle class and those struggling to make it,” Weiner told reporters while speaking at a forum on affordable housing issues. However, fellow Democratic mayoral candidate Bill Thompson was a little more direct according to Politicker.  “Look I’ve said before. Polls, I’ve seen how inaccurate they have been over the years, how inaccurate they continue to be,” Thompson explained to reporters about this third place finish in the poll.

Maybe the most surprising result from the poll was the fact that Weiner beat out Quinn among female voters 22 to 21 percent. However, the candidates all seem to agree that these latest poll numbers aren't necessarily a prediction of the outcome this fall.
