Mayor Bloomberg's Deputy Mayor of Governmental Affairs Howard Wolfson sent out a memo Thursday touting Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly's record on crime. Gothamist reports that the memo titled "T-Minus 5" detailed the drop in crime during Bloomberg's administration.

In the memo Wolfson reportedly highlights that murders have dropped 49% since Mayor Bloomberg took office along with incarceration rates dropping 36%.

Gothamist also notes that the Bloomberg administration credits Mayor Bloomberg's Young Men's Initiative for the drop in crime. The program is designed to help young Black and Latino men build stronger futures through mentoring, job counseling services, educational support services and other ways.
