Newark Mayor Cory Booker has defeated former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan in Wednesday's special U.S. Senate election. Booker gave his victory speech just after 10pm Wednesday evening after holding off Lonegan, who had made the race a lot closer than many expected.

The Associated Press called the race around 9:30pm just after about 52% of the votes had been counted showing Booker with a 55 to 44 percent lead. You can find the voting results here. Booker will fill the vacant New Jersey Senate seat left by late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
