On today's "Joan Hamburg Show," Joan talked about a new genetic test that could help thousands of men each year decide whether they need to treat their cancer immediately or just monitor it.

In the AP report, doctors say that this genetic test could help prevent a major problem occurring in cancer care...overtreatment. The test, called the Oncotype DX Genomic Prostate Score, would show the patient and doctor how aggressive a case of prostate cancer the patient has.

One problem with this groundbreaking test developed by Genomic Health Inc. is that it would be very costly. The test would cost patients $3,820, but it could save the person money over the long term if they don't have to pay for unnecessary treatment.
