A 911 call set off a scare in Weekhawken last night on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel.  It appears to have been a hoax.

The caller reported that there was a sniper on top of a building, causing police to storm the area.  An extensive search was conducted and traffic was diverted, leading to big delays.

The building was searched and a light rail train was even stopped so that authorities could investigate.  They boarded the train and questioned passengers.  Despite their efforts, they never found a sniper.

Police eventually realized it was a hoax.

They traced the 911 call to Pennsylvania and the investigation is continuing.
