A Waldwick, New Jersey police officer has been killed this morning after being struck by a tractor trailer.
Officer Chris Goodell, 32, was stationed in an unmarked car on the side of Route 17. He was doing a radar check on driver speeds when the tractor trailer smashed into the car.
"It pushed the vehicle through Bergen Avenue and into a retaining wall to the side of a residential property that exists on the corner of Bergen Avenue and Route 17," said Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli.
Goodell was pronounced dead at the scene.
"He was an outstanding and proactive officer who loved his family, his fiancée, his job and his comrades," said Police Chief Mark Messner. "He will be sorely missed. He was an excellent police officer and doing what he loved."
Goodell was a 5 year veteran of the department and a former Marine.
