NYC lawmakers overrode Mayor Bloomberg's veto of a paid sick time law early Thursday morning, according to NBC New York. The law will force small businesses in NYC to provide their workers with paid sick time.
Under the law, starting in April of next year, businesses with 20 or more workers will have to give their employees up to five sick days per year. Businesses with between 15 and 19 employees will have to provide the benefit to employees by Oct. 2015. All other businesses will have to give workers five unpaid sick days a year. These new rules could be put on hold if the economy starts to struggle before then.
