September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and to promote awareness, One World Trade will light up gold on September 2nd.

At first, Port Authority was skeptical about the request, but changed their mind and decided to allow the tallest building in New York City to illuminate. The request was originally for the Empire State Building, but the agency refused to accept the request because they do not complete requests from individuals.

Groups rallied and were able to round up other buildings in the city go agree to 'go gold' for the cause. The Chairman of the Port Authority along with the Durst Organization, which manages One World Trade have agreed to honor the request so on the night of September 2nd, the building will be lit up gold.
