The Reverend Al Sharpton is arguing he deserves a say on police policies and procedures because “We won the election.”

During a press conference yesterday, Sharpton lashed out at critics who questioned his influence over Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYPD.  Sharpton says he came out against stop and frisk and profiling, which determined the results of the election.

He proclaimed, “We changed laws in one election.”

Sharpton is now calling for a march across the Verrazano Bridge on August 23rd to protest the death of Eric Garner.

But some lawmakers are trying to stop the demonstration.

According to the New York Post, Staten Island Councilman tweeted the plane would “set a precedent for closing the bridge for marches.”

He’s calling on Mayor de Blasio to stop the planned protest.
