Tourist Maimed By NYC Cabbie Sues City For $27.5 Million

(Christopher Robbins) Sian Green, the British tourist who was maimed by a cab driver in front of Rockefeller Center this summer is suing the city for $27.5 million, alleging that the cabbie's license should have been suspended at the time of the incident. “The Taxi & Limousine Commission should have suspended his license BEFORE the time of the accident,” Green's attorney argues in the complaint, which was obtained by the Daily News. “Admittedly, due to a ‘computer glitch,’ TLC failed to ensure pedestrian safety, and specifically [Green’s] safety and well-being.”

The TLC admitted that over the last four years, this "glitch" allowed 4,500 cabbies with more than six violations within 15 months to keep driving. The driver who struck Green, 24-year-old Mohammed Himon, had previous infractions for speeding, running a red light, and was involved in an accident in 2010 that injured another person.
