Thomas Vanek netted a power-play goal in the second for Detroit, which has split its first four games of the season. Jimmy Howard made 32 saves in the victory. Mika Zibanejad scored New York's only goal 1:09 into the first. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 16 shots for the Blueshirts, who are also off to a 2-2-and-0 start to the year.
