Madison Beer recently released her first single of 2017, "Dead," and it may just be your new favorite breakup anthem. "Dead" shows tremendous growth for the 18-year-old from her previous releases, and is about an ex who often plays with their former significant other's mind, telling them empty sentiments like "I can't live without you,' etc. -- the usual.
But the song contains perhaps the greatest of comebacks in a situation like this. She sings in the chorus, "You say you can't live without me/So why aren't you dead yet?"
On the inspiration behind her new song, Madison tells us she had noticed people saying similar things online and on social media. She's also hoping people will actually text this to their ex:
"I wanted the song to be like any girl or guy could text this to her ex and just be like, 'This is how I feel." That was my mindset for it," Madison says. She adds, "Just photos on the Instagram and people saying that kind of stuff just made me want to run with that."
By the way, we imagine this text convo to go as follows:
"Dead" is just the beginning for Madison. She is working towards a full-length album, and may release an EP sooner down the line. She says, "I've just like been working a lot, trying to get it going and I know the fans are getting a little impatient but so am I. So we're all really eager and excited, and it's all good."
Madison has been working hard on new music, and says that she won't release anything unless it's absolutely authentic to her. She explains, "I'm not gonna throw down unless it's 100% me and my vibe, and what I'm rockin' with. So it'll be really like authentic, and I'm excited for people to hear that side of me."
Over the last few years, Madison has released several singles including "All For Love" featuring Jack and Jack, and collab with LA-based producer/DJ duo Mako "I Won't Let You Walk Away." But fast forward a few years, and Madison has learned a lot since then.
"I feel like I've definitely found my sound, I feel like I've evolved as a person and an artist a lot. Turning 18 and moving into my own place, I feel like it's matured me and helped me become emotionally attached to my music."
Definitely keep your ear out for Madison Beer this year, because there's more where "Dead" came from.
