Hollywood Hamilton on the USS George H.W. Bush

Over the weekend of August 9,10,11 I had the very rare opportunity to visit with Captain Andrew Loiselle, CMC David Carter and LCDR Charlie Drey and their remarkable crew aboard the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) aircraft carrier in the mid Atlantic. My overall experience was exciting. Learning how the Navy operates was nothing short of spectacular. It's absolutely amazing to see how our Navy continues to train so many young Americans in trades and skills that they wouldn't of otherwise had a chance at. During my short stay and living aboard the USS George H.W. Bush, by speaking with dozens of sailors, I learned that most of them joined the Navy to have a chance at learning a new skill and acquiring unrivaled experience in the process. I also found that allot of enlisted sailors joined not knowing what they wanted in life and then ended up finding their career niche while actually serving in the Navy. I was happy to find that the Navy teaches young people how to secure their finances while earning competitive pay with generous vacation time not to mention getting comprehensive health care coverage. The video and pictures you'll see in this slide show demonstrate just how important the Navy and all armed forces are regarding our nation's security cooperation efforts. This nuclear powered Carrier and all our Naval vessels play such an important role in building partnerships and establishing trust before crisis occurs during bilateral exercise and strategic port visits. Former President George H.W. Bush said it best while aboard the ship addressing the crew, and I concur, "Make no mistake; the work aboard this ship can be routinely difficult and sometimes dangerous. But the freedom we seek and peace we desire can only be found in the countless sacrifices you will make in everyday tasks you will perform." My sincere thank you to the entire staff and crew aboard the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). You should be very proud; I know I am of you. Sean H. Hamilton
