Eleven years ago, at the Grammy Awards, Kelly Clarkson had just learned she had cancer. Only it was a false alarm.
She revealed on Billboard magazine’s Pop Shop Podcast “I was told that morning I had cancerous results. I went the whole day crying. They redid my makeup four times because I was like, 'Wow, so young.’”
Her song “Since U Been Gone” won for Best Female Pop Vocal. Kelly cried throughout the acceptance speech. She was so close to balling her eyes out. Behind those tears was a deeper understanding of the chemotherapy she’d soon undergo.
Kelly confessed “Then when I won, I thought, ‘This is my last hurrah! Like God giving me one more thing before something horrible happens.’”
Only the opposite happened. The next day, her doctor apologized for “mixing up results.” She said she wanted to punch somebody. Rightfully so!
