A Dutch TV show called "Neem Je Zwemspullen Mee," which translates to "Bring Your Bathing Suit," has launched a new segment on their show. We're all about shows making adventurous changes to their formats, but this one is seriously messed up. The new segment on Neem Je Zwemspullen Mee has men guessing if a woman is pregnant or fat. The Huffington Post reports that we're not the only people completely outraged by this. People have taken to Twitter, including people from The Netherlands, to drag the segment online.
"Guessing whether a woman is pregnant or fat is not a sport, it's a fatphobic way of shaming women for having different kinds of bodies," writes Brittney McNamara for Teen Vogue. "It implies that if you don't have a flat stomach, there must be some sort of explanation. But we never owe anyone an explanation for our bodies. They are our own, and we're not sorry about them."
This is a pretty embarrassing gaffe for the Dutch television program. They haven't made an official statement concerning the backlash yet. If this righteous outrage keeps up, though, they may be forced to address the problem.
