Newark Surprises Its 2017 Teacher Of the Year

Brian Klasner is a Social Studies teacher at East Side High in Newark New Jersey. According to an article by the New York Post, "When you walk into his classroom odds are, you won't find him sitting at his desk or lecturing at the front -- he'll be among his students."

On Tuesday,  a dozen school administrators, members of the media and his fellow colleagues surprised Mr. Klasner to crown him Newark's Teacher of the Year!

He said, "It's validation of years of people telling me 'No, you can't do this,' 'No, that doesn't work, use a textbook, don't break the mold,'"

One of his students said, "I can never see myself sleeping in his class, partly because Klasner will draw on your face with a dry-erase marker if you do”

Mr. Klasner was chosen from a pool of 22 other educators who were nominated by their principals. If you know Mr. Klasner, give him a hug from Cubby and Carolina!!

Anup Patel was cleaning out his car in January when he stumbled across a Powerball ticket he bought six months earlier in a cup holder.

He nearly threw it away. It's a good thing he had second thoughts. The ticket ended up being worth $50,000 by matching four of the five white balls and the Powerball. He had purchased the ticket in July but forgot to check the numbers.

Patel claimed the ticket on Feb. 3 -- 190 days after the Powerball drawing. The ticket was purchased at Baldwin News & Food Store in Parsippany. Winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
