A newborn gorilla is alive in Philadelphia. That's all thanks to a team of experts who helped with a very difficult delivery at the Philadelphia Zoo.
The baby western lowland gorilla was born to mom, 17-year-old Kira and the zoo's 32-year old silverback male, Motuba.
Mama Gorilla went into labor last Friday, but began struggling. By Saturday zoo veterinarians rushed in ob/gyns from a local hospital, who normally deliver humans!
Thanks to those Doctors and the team at the Philadelphia Zoo, mama and baby are doing just fine!!!
Philadelphia Zoo welcomed a new addition to the family: a western lowland gorilla baby born to Kira, the Zoo’s 17-year-old female and 32-year old silverback, Motuba, on Friday, June 2nd. After prolonged labor, human doctors were called to aid zoo veterinarians and perform an assisted delivery with forceps - a rare occurrence when delivering a gorilla baby.
