Clothesline Project 2017

healingSPACE will host its Clothesline Project on the Green in Hackensack across from the Bergen County Courthouse to raise community awareness of violence against women, men, and children and demonstrate to survivors that they are not alone.

The Clothesline Project, now in its 24th year, features thousands of t-shirts created by survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, child abuse, and personal violence. Creating shirts promotes healing by providing survivors and their loved ones with an avenue to break the silence. Visitors can participate by creating their own shirts and pledging their support for the community's anti-violence efforts.

The event is free and open to the public. healingSPACE, Bergen County’s only Sexual Violence Resource Center, will be joined by diverse partner organizations also committed to raising community awareness, providing resources, and ending violence. Sponsor SUEZ Water North Jersey (mysuezwater.com) provides both ongoing support and volunteers for this important event. A midday program beginning at 11:00 am will feature Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, Senator Loretta Weinberg, and multimedia journalist Maureen Shaw (shawwrites.com) sharing her journey as a survivor of sexual violence.
