Overturned Truck Near Lincoln Tunnel Snarls Traffic All Over NJ, NYC

An overturned traffic-trailer on the approach to the Lincoln Tunnel Wednesday morning caused major traffic delays in roads from New Jersey to New York.

The vehicle flipped over on the westbound side of 495 in Weekhawken near the exit to the Lincoln Tunnel, but motorists on the New York-bound side were still facing heavy traffic.

As of 7:15 a.m., delays into the city were at least 45 minutes. That figure increased as the morning rush hour went on.

NJ Transit buses were rerouted to Secaucus. The Agency was also cross-honoring tickets on trains, PATH and ferry.

All westbound lanes of 495 were closed. Traffic was diverted through a small tunnel that leads to Willow Avenue in Hoboken, according to the NJ Department of Transportation's website 511nj.org .

In addition to the delays on 495, all lanes on Kennedy Boulevard in Husdson county were closed in both directions between Baldwin Avenue and Willow Avenue.

But the problems didn't end at the Lincoln Tunnel.

Drives headed to the Holland Tunnel waited in backups of over 40 minutes. The George Washington Bridge saw a traffic jam that stretched over three miles.

Traffic on the NJ Turnpike southbound was also jammed into Exit 17, which brings motorists to Route 495 to the Lincoln Tunnel.
