NYC's First Soccer Stadium Is Coming To The South Bronx

7 years after New York City got its first official soccer team, the New York City F.C. [football club] is about to get its own stadium.

The New York Times, is reporting that the organization has finally reached a real estate deal to construct the soccer stadium. The location? South Bronx, right near Yankee Stadium. The stadium will not only include the 25,000-seat stadium, but the deal they made will have affordable housing options, a school, hotel and stores. The privately-financed project will cost over $1 billion. The NYC F.C. team currently plays at Yankee Stadium.

The team has been looking to find a permanent headquarters since the team formed in 2013. After reaching out and to Mayor de Blasio and the head of the NYC Economic Development Corporation, they were able to gain support for the project will provide local jobs, as well as a new school for South Bronx residents.

The Times is estimating that if everything goes according to plan, the stadium will be complete in the year 2024.
