Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that New York City would be hiring 10,000 people to clean up New York City.
“Building a recovery for all of us means creating thousands and thousands of jobs that will make our city a safer and more beautiful place to live, work, and play,” de Blasio said in a statement.
Workers will be paid $15 an hour. The mayor said there’s been an increase in graffiti and littering since the start of the pandemic.
“In 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt built the nation’s economic recovery by improving infrastructure, putting Americans back to work, and restoring civic pride in our public spaces. Today, New York City is leading the way in doing it again,” de Blasio said.
