Demi Lovato tried to shoot their shot with actress Emily Hampshire.
On Wednesday (September 1), the Schitt's Creek alum appeared on the singer's podcast, 4D With Demi Lovato, to talk about the start of their friendship, including the time Lovato asked her on a date, per Entertainment Tonight.
"You slid into my DMs and you said, 'Hey, I like you on the show. We should kick it sometime,'" she told Lovato, who apparently further explained what they meant. "And then you said, below it, 'And by kick it, I mean go on a date. I find you attractive.' You made it clear it was a date. And I loved that because sometimes that's confusing. I'm decades older than you, so 'kick it,' I was looking it up."
The DMs went a little awry when Hampshire, 40, brought up the age gap between her and Lovato, 29. The singer said they could be like Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor, before realizing that implied Hampshire was the 78-year-old Taylor in the relationship.
As the pair laughed at the exchange, and the "Sorry Not Sorry" musician agreed it wasn't their "smoothest move," they're glad with the friendship that bloomed.
"A non-binary person can dream," Lovato said, adding, "I was like, 'What's the worst that could happen?' And I made a really good friend. You're a dope friend, and I'm happy we became friends."
