88-year-old Lowell Collins of Umatilla, Florida, is a local legend -- at least at his local blood bank -- as he recently donated his 150th gallon of blood.

He first started donating blood in 1953 and has never stopped, saving the lives of more than 3,000 people along the way. And, that’s not even including the lives saved by others he’s recruited to also donate blood through the years.

To celebrate the 150-gallon milestone, the staff of the blood bank Lowell visits these days set up a display in the office with 30 five-gallon drums stacked from floor to ceiling, showing how much blood he has given to date.
