HBO reportedly hopes to order several Game of Thrones prequel series in addition to the upcoming 2022 series called House of the Dragon. Among them may be a series based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg, as an adaptation of these novellas, which follow Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen nine decades before A Song of Ice and Fire, is reportedly in early development. Additionally, HBO is reportedly considering a prequel about Robert's Rebellion, a war referred to in Thrones. All of the ideas currently being considered would reportedly be prequels rather than sequels or direct spinoffs. HBO is reportedly looking to go all in on the franchise and is likely betting viewers disappointed by the original show's finale will return.
