Vietnam Vet Meets Girl Who Sent Him Letter In 1970

A Vietnam veteran met the person who sent him a simple Christmas letter 48 years ago that helped him get through the war.

A sixth-grader named Donna Caye wrote a thank you letter to troops as part of a school project. On Christmas Day in 1970, John Metzler received her card. She wrote, "Dear Serviceman … I want to give my sincere thanks for going over to war to fight for us. The class hopes you will be able to come home.”

Metzler held onto the letter and displays it in his Idaho home. Recently, Metzler asked his family to try to locate Donna Caye. They told him they had no such luck, but in reality, they found her and arranged a flight from her home in Florida to surprise him.

Cameras were rolling and tears were flowing as the met. Watch the video here.
