Man Allegedly Left Special Needs Woman To Die In Las Vegas Desert

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a special needs woman who is presumed to be dead. Police say that John Matthew Chapman, 39, promised to drive 33-year-old Jaime Rae Feden across the country to Las Vegas, where they would conduct a photoshoot in the desert. Once they reached Nevada, Chapman told police that he tied Feden to signpost and duct-taped her mouth and nose to suffocate her. He then left her to die. She was last seen on September 15.

“What I would say about her, she’s a sweet, gentle, loving soul, and she was taken advantage of by a predator,” Bethel Park Police Chief Timothy O’Connor told WTAE.

After Chapman left Feden, he drove back to his home in Bethel Park. He reportedly contacted her family on social media, pretending to be her.

According to WPXI, Chapman admitted to his wife that he killed Feden.

"He said he had murdered a woman," said Maureen Chapman. "I was in disbelief."

Chapman was taken into custody by Bethel Park police and has been charged with kidnapping, obstruction, and other crimes. He has not been charged with murder yet. Officials have not been able to locate Feden's body and are continuing the search.
