NY Becomes First State To Ban Declawing Of Cats

 

Calling all cat owners, we are curious to know what you think of New York becoming the first state to ban the declawing of cats?

Governor Cuomo actually signed the bill earlier today and it will take effect immediately. "By banning this archaic practice, we will ensure that animals are no longer subjected to these inhumane and unnecessary procedures," Cuomo said in a statement.

Cat declawing is already illegal in several countries including the UK, Israel, and Switzerland. For those that don't know, removing a cat's claws requires the partial amputation of the last bone in each of the toes on a cat's front feet. Poor little kitties! Many people want to declaw their cats to avoid furniture being destroyed, which is pretty selfish.
