U.S. News and World Report has released its annual list of the best high schools in the nation.  The rankings are based on proficiency in basic skills and readiness for college-level work.  These are the 20 highest rated high schools in New York.

1. High School of American Studies at Lehman College

High School of American Studies at Lehman College is ranked No. 1 in New York and No. 17 among all high schools nationally. They specialize in American history and students can enroll in courses at Lehman College, according to U. S. News and World Report.

2. Manhattan Bridges High School

Manhattan Bridges High School is ranked No. 2 in New York and No. 25 among all high schools nationally. The AP participation rate at Manhattan Bridges High School is 100 percent., according to U.S. News and World Report.

3. High School Math Science and Engineering at CCNY

High School Math Science and Engineering at CCNY is ranked No. 3 in New York and No. 26 among all high schools nationally. The AP participation rate at the school is 100 percent, according to U.S. News and World Report.

4. KIPP Academy Charter School
