Oh no! This is such sad news. The East Village's annual celebration which was scheduled to take place this year on October 20th has been canceled due to funding issues.
The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade featured many furry family members in the cutest and most creative of costumes and would have been in its 28th year.
On the upside, a GoFundMe has been created and has already raised $721 out of the $15,000 goal that could keep this East Village tradition going.
Their campaign page states:
The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is a beloved New York City tradition. For almost 30 years, it has attracted costumed canines and dog loving visitors from all over the world. But 2018 may be the first time New York City goes without this festive celebration! This year, the parade's budget has ballooned. As a result, the organizers have not been able to secure a sponsor and they may be forced to cancel this crucial fundraising event for the Tompkins Square Dog Run.
