Rihanna just received another honor, and this time it’s from the government. No, she’s not the president — at least, not yet.
The Barbados government appointed RiRi as the “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, with specific responsibility for promoting education, tourism and investment for the island.” Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley cites the singer’s loyalty to her home country and philanthropic efforts towards health and education as reasons for her appointment.
In a statement, Rihanna said she looks forward to using her role to “re-imagine” Barbados. “I couldn’t be more proud to take on such a prestigious title in my home country… Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I’m ready and excited to take on the responsibility. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team."
