When I heard I'd be doing a Zoom interview with the one and only, Nelly I was pretty excited. Not only is he a Grammy winning, multiple diamond selling artist, he's cool as anything.
I had SO many questions. Mainly since I've been a fan since the Country Grammar days, I don't quite understand how he hasn't aged a day in 20 years... seriously it's not fair! He's out there doing backflips on Dancing with the Stars, while I hobble out of bed in the morning like an old woman. 😂
It was kind of nice to hear that he's human just like the rest of us.
It's been a year and change of pandemic-living and I feel as though many of us handled it differently. Some of us were holed up inside, some of us got those creative juices flowing. Nelly disclosed to me that "Lil Bit", his latest single with Florida Georgia Line was actually written pre-pandemic - which surprised me a lil bit (pardon the pun, sorry that was horrific.)
To me, the song represents enjoying the little things, like getting outdoors, reconnecting with family and loved ones. It's definitely the vibe in the video.
We also chat about where he was at right before everything changed in March of 2020, and what it'll be like getting back into doing live music.
His forthcoming country inspired EP titled “Heartland” is expected to be released this summer and it'll be out just in time for him to perform songs from it for our 2021 iHeartRadio Music Festival.
